Used Above Ground Pools

Adding a pool to your yard is a big decision and most times that decision includes whether or not to purchase used above ground pools.  A used swimming pool can be a great way to save yourself a lot of money but it is important to take of numbers of factors into consideration before you buy any used above ground pool.

One of the biggest considerations when buying an above ground pool that has been previously enjoyed is the age of the pool.  The main reason for this is because if a pool is quite old, usually over 10 years old, there is a very likely possibility that parts and supplies you may need for that particular model of pool may have been discontinued.  If the pool is a newer model, than this shouldn’t be a problem.

One of the best ways to check and make sure that there are still parts available for your pool, is by checking with your local pool supply store or the pool manufacturers website.  Tell them that you are planning to purchase a used pool and you would like to know if there are still replacement parts available and where you can buy them.  This will put your mind at ease about any unforeseen problems that you may encounter when re-installing your pool and any trouble you may have down the line.

These places are also a great source for replacement instruction manuals and are often willing to help with the assembly of your pool in any way they can.

With most used above ground pools, another major consideration is the condition of the liner.  A pool liner is one component of a pool that needs to be replaced quite regularly so ask the seller how old the liner is.  If it will be necessary to replace the liner, you can factor that into your price comparison between buying a used swimming pool or a new one.

If it is possible, do a visual inspection of the pool before it is disassembled so you can check other important components of the pool.  Watch for things like rust on the top and bottom rails, corrosion on the walls and make sure that everything seems to fit together well.  If something looks unstable, ask the seller about it.

To protect yourself from the frustration of reassembling a pool, take lots of pictures of the above ground pool while it is still together.  Take more pictures as you take the pool apart so you can reference those photos if you have trouble putting the pool back together.  If you are having a professional company take the pool down and re-install it for you, than this step is not necessary.

Remember, that even though you may need to replace a few of the parts on a used above ground pool, the savings may be worth it!  Sometimes it is possible to save more than $5000 on used above ground pools.  This makes it a very smart choice and one that you and your family will enjoy for years and years to come.
